Hayward Industries was founded in 1925 and became one of the most recognized industrial filtration products manufacturers during the next 80 years. Hayward had three divisions:
Hayward Flow Control: Molded pipeline strainers, filter housings and valves for industrial applications (PVC, CPVC, Clear PVC and PVDF materials).
Hayward Filtration: Cast and fabricated alloy pipeline strainers and filtration products, acquired by Eaton Hydraulics Filtration Division in 2005.
Hayward Pool Products: Commercial portion of their business for all valves, pumps and accessories used for pools, waterparks, spas and similar applications.
Hayward's Flow Control Division in Clemmons NC is where all of the industrial and commercial products are manufactured; it is important to note that even though the industrial and pool products are made at the same location, the building is literally divided in half and both divisions operate independently from one another. Hayward's Y strainer product offering consists of Y strainers for ½" to 4" pipeline sizes in PVC, CPVC, Clear PVC and PVDF.
It is common practice to try and match the Y strainer material of construction with that of the corresponding pipeline it is installed within. Compared to alloy materials, plastic Y strainers have a lower rated pressure (150 PSIG non-shock pressure at 70°F) even though the flanged versions are designed for installation within 150# class pipelines.
Hayward Y strainers are offered with threaded, socket (glued) and 150# ANSI flanged connections. Some models have a true-union design to simplify installation and replacement.
