Titan Model BS25 Simplex Strainers

Inexpensive Cast Iron Basket Strainers

Titan Model BS25 Simplex Basket Strainer

Model BS25 basket strainers are a low cost version of cast iron simplex strainers.  Available in 3/8" to 8" sizes, the model BS25 basket chamber cover can be removed without tools, it has a drain plug and adjustable mounting feet.

How to choose between the Eaton 30R and Titan BS25 cast iron simplex basket strainers?

This is a great example of the fallacy of simply comparing strainers by their connection size!

While comparing pricing and lead time are typically the deciding factors, the flow coefficient (Cv) values are significantly lower for the smaller size BS25 strainers.  What this means from a  practical standpoint is that for a given size strainer the Eaton Model 30R will have an initial clean differential pressure drop lower than than the Titan BS25.   This directly equates to the frequency of basket cleaning (you would expect to clean the Titan BS25 more frequently) and if you are using a centrifugal pump, using the Titan BS25 could result in a reduction in flow.

This is why we provide differential pressure calculators, because it makes it easier to compare "performance".  So while cost and lead time are important, performance and features often matter most.

The Eaton Model 30R has a machined strainer basket ring whereas the Titan BS25 uses an o-ring to ensure a positive seal between the basket and housing.  This might make the Titan BS25 more resilient and improve reliability of the seal. The Eaton 30R uses a clamp style closure for all its sizes, although is not offered in sizes <1½" whereas the Titan BS25 is available in sizes as small as 3/8".

In summary the Titan BS25 will likely cost less and ship from stock, however, check the differential pressure for your intended flow rate; it should be no greater than 2 or maybe 3 PSI.  The BS25 will compare well with the 4", 6" and 8" Eaton Model 30R basket strainers.
