Hayward PVC Y strainers are an industrial-duty injection molded product designed to withstand harsh fluids and environments. The PVC used contains UV inhibitors and thus they are suitable for outdoor use. A frequently asked question is: Are your PVC Y strainers schedule 40 or 80? The answer is "neither" because that terminology is used to describe uniform wall thickness of piping and since these are molded products they have varying wall thicknesses and therefore cannot have a specific "schedule" assigned to them. Hayward's PVC Y strainers are an injection molded product consisting of a body, a strainer element and a threaded element chamber cover. The element is easily accessed due to the captured o-ring on the chamber cover, which requires minimal tightening for a good seal. The elements are made of perforated PVC although can also be supplied in 316SS in both perforation and mesh lined designs.
The standard connections include threaded, socket (glued) and flanged; the threaded and socket connections can also be provided in a true union style which facilitates easier installation and strainer body replacement if the strainer becomes damaged.
The standard 1/32" perforated element results in a 2:1 open area straining ratio and thus minimal pressure drop across the Y strainer.
Y strainers can be installed horizontally or vertically if the flow is downwards; if the flow were upwards the particulate would not reside in the element.
•The standard screen
perforation is 1/32" although you may substitute 1/16", 1/8" or
3/16" perforated screen in lieu of standard 1/32"
perforation for no charge.
• Strainer screens are same material as the strainer body.
• SS mesh lined options are 20, 40, 60, 80 & 100.
• ½" thru 1½" PVC Y Strainers are supplied with both socket and threaded end connectors.
