Model BS86 simplex basket strainers are for higher pressures, having ANSI Class 300# flanged connections and available in 1" to 8" sizes. Due to the pressure class the closure is bolt style, so it requires tools to access the strainer basket.
While it is typical to compare price and lead time to decide what to order, the flow coefficient (Cv) values should also be compared to make the best decision from a performance perspective.
Basket strainers which have a higher Cv (flow coefficient) value can handle higher flow rates at a given pressure. This also equates to reduced frequency of basket cleaning; benefits include less downtime, reduced employee exposure to the process fluid and optimum energy efficiency as less pressure is required for a given flow rate.
The Cv values are so close within the 2" to 10" sizes for these manufacturers that they will mostly perform the same, thus ergonomics, cost and lead time should be the deciding factors. The 10" - 14" sizes favor Keckley from a lower initial pressure drop perspective.
