Eaton, Keckley and Titan all offer 150# class cast 316SS duplex basket strainers. Titan also offers a high-pressure 300# class design. These units allow one basket to be cleaned while the other remains in service, so flow is never interrupted.
¾"–4" sizes (all three manufacturers) use a ball-valve style flow diverter. Simply rotate the handle 180° to switch chambers. Eaton and Titan use an elastomeric (soft) seat; Keckley uses a metal-to-metal seat. Some leakage into the isolated chamber is normal; the Keckley metal seat may have a slightly higher leakage rate. Both Keckley and Titan extend the ball-valve design to the 6" and 8" sizes.
Eaton Model 50 (6" & 8") uses a tapered plug valve. Operation requires an extra step: lift the plug off its seat with a screw jack, divert the flow, then reseat the plug. This metal-to-metal design can be advantageous with aggressive fluids.
Keckley Model SSDPXF (10"–20") is the only cast 316SS duplex available in these larger sizes. It uses a sliding-disc valve design operated by a geared handwheel. Two baskets per chamber reduce individual basket weight and may eliminate the need for an overhead hoist.
Which Duplex Strainer Design is the “Best”?
Use the calculator to estimate clean differential pressure for all three brands. Select connection size, enter flow rate (GPM), adjust specific gravity and viscosity if needed, then update. Target a clean differential of ≤ 2 PSI. Note: there is no 24" cast 316SS duplex; sizes 24" and larger must be custom fabricated.
