Hayward simplex strainers are designed with usability and safety in-mind. Consisting of a 1 piece injection molded body having true union connections Hayward's PVC simplex strainers are easily installed and used in harsh environments. When it is time to clean the basket the strainer should be isolated with a pair of valves, the vent plug located on the cover should be opened and the body drain plug removed, draining most of the fluid from the basket chamber. The extra true union connection located on the lower portion of the strainer body can be used as an additional outlet or an alternate outlet such that the fluid enters and leaves from the same side; this is often referred to as a "loop" configuration. We offer an optional drain valve kit which can be installed onto the lower true union connection to facilitate quick drainage and drainage of viscous fluids.
The Hayward PVC basket strainer is designed to be installed and serviced without the need for tools. The oversized "rabbit ear" cover handle enables quick removal and will provide sufficient sealing by hand thus reducing the possibility of over-tightening. The vent and drain plugs are also designed to be opened by hand, but if your fluid is aggressive using a ball valve drain kit is a worthwhile investment. Hayward also manufactures PVC ball valves and butterfly valves and we can provide them manually or actuated for isolation of the strainer for basket cleaning.
The slanted style basket inside the strainer positively orients the basket to minimize the differential pressure drop and prevents "spinning" of the basket when the velocity of the incoming fluid is high (the maximum recommended inlet velocity is 5 FPS). The strainer baskets are made of perforated PVC and 316SS perforated and mesh lined baskets are also available if needed.
