Temporary cone strainers, commonly called witch hat strainers because of their pointed design, are the most versatile style of temporary strainer. They can be installed with the narrow end pointing either with or against the flow.
The most common orientation is with the pointy end facing against the flow. This causes particulate to gradually build up around the circumference of the pipeline. They are also frequently used when the highest possible straining ratio is needed for a given pipeline size.
We supply temporary cone strainers for 150# and 300# pipelines in sizes from ¾" to 24". Standard materials are carbon steel, 304L stainless steel, and 316L stainless steel. The standard perforation is 1/8", with other perforation sizes and mesh lining available.Mesh-lined temporary cone strainers provide finer filtration. The mesh is always placed on the upstream side so the perforated substrate fully supports it. Standard mesh sizes include 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 150, and 200 mesh.
Standard open area ratios are 100% or 150%. Longer elements with higher open area ratios are available upon request.
